Syracuse-based Master Thieves has evolved into a hard-hitting rock-n-roll outfit that effortlessly blends the improvisational wizardry of the jamband scene with strong vocal harmonies, tight, original arrangements, and a passion for live performance.
This eclectic ensemble creates music inspired by a wide variety of influences including Levon Helm, Galactic, the Grateful Dead, Phish, Jackie Green, the Allman Brothers Band, and more.
In 2011, the Thieves released their debut CD, Robbing the Blind, nominated for a Syracuse Area Music (Sammy) Award for Best Blues Album. In 2012, Master Thieves released Nature of Gravity, further expanding upon the group’s original sound and also earning a 2013 Sammy nomination for Best Rock. A live disc, Live at the Redhouse, followed, even as the Thieves continue to hone their collective skills in preparation for the band’s next studio release.
Featuring guitarist Chuck Dorgan, drummer John Goldsworthy, bassist Paul Opel, Dave Dufresne on guitar, and keyboardist Cato, Master Thieves’ sonic blend of American genres is something to hear … and something to experience.
“Syracuse, N.Y.- based Master Thieves show ambition with their sophomore release, Nature of Gravity [and] there is evident talent among the entire band …” – Relix Magazine, Oct/Nov 2012
“… the band seems to be tight-knit, something they draw attention to in their Facebook bio: ‘Dorgan said it’s the band’s commitment to the music, and each other, that defines their collective sound.’ If so, it’s working.” – Jessica Novak, Syracuse New Times
